KT you mixed up some events but you fail to produce any logic. Before CR started writing articles nobody was using your forum. You were one of the only posters spamming the place with suggestions, admins did not respond, nobody was interested. Didn't Chessty censor you at FICS for spamming suggestion(*)? The only times there was some lively debate was when the CR articles were discussed, sadly it was soon subject to censorship.

Actually you had made an agreement with CheatersRep for him not to promote computer cheating in exchange for his being allowed to post. You breached that agreement and closed the forum for all unregs. This speaks volumes about your "endorsement" of free speech.

As for the Free FICS Forum, it depends on how you define a DOS. If you meant that you could make a bunch of posts promoting an idea (like CheatersRep did on ficsforum.net), then we are ok with it and nothing would be deleted. It is a free forum after all, and people need to get used to freedom. If you, however, meant that you could make a bunch of posts with exactly same content, then we would remove that, as our guidelines explicitly forbid spamming. It is a simple rule and not restrictive at all - we do not have DoNoHarm or other retarded censorship-loving rules.

Advanced Pawn, I just read your post. Indeed I think CR wrote the infamous articles just to enliven ficsforum.net and get some discussion going. I doubt that he ever actually cheated.

This is irrelevant. The real issue here is, ficsforum.net admins had made an agreement with CheatersRep, then they unilaterally breached that agreement, now they blame CheatersRep for their forum being dead. Can you see the irony?

I could DOS the "Free FICS Forum" then claim is is a bad message board because it is DOSed.

Funny that you do claim it is a bad message board, but you never DOSed it.

And now CheatersRep is claiming the FICS Forum is dead because it isn't open to guests.

Recall that CheatersRep wasn't a guest. There's just too many flaws in your reasoning (or memory) that your words simply aren't credible.

Nothing productive can happen in a forum that is not policed for ad hominem attacks and excessive profanity. It's a myth that giving people the "freedom" to say whatever they want will result in open and honest discussion. It will not. It will result in vicious personal attacks and the abuse of any serious or productive poster. But, it will be extremely popular with some people, and they will post for hours and hours in many colorful ways about how certain people they don't like should die. You can create a forum that is totally dedicated to this false "freedom," and many have done this before you, but then what? After a few months of endless garbage won't you get sick of seeing someone try to post a good idea only to be harassed and threatened until they give up and go somewhere else? If that's what you really want, then fine, go create whatever kind of forum you like. Just don't expect it to get anything good accomplished.

The main reason why www.ficsforum.net is deserted is that there's a much easier way to communicate with people from FICS and suggest improvements to FICS: just go to FICS!

Actually the Free FICS Forum is well policed, all you cite applies only to Trash Talk section, which is similar to Bugboard's Flames&Rages. You made no point here, plus you are off-topic.

Allowing someone to trash other people in one section of a forum is no solution. Telling the people who are being abused, harassed, and threatened "oh it's just on this part of the forum, so don't worry about it" is just a lame excuse to avoid confronting the abusers. Anyway the Free FICS Forum is a perfect example of what happens when the boundaries are not properly set: you get a few kiddies making truly awful posts for a couple of months, then someone who wants a "real" forum steps in and boom, the whole thing dissolves altogether. You may not agree that the bug board or the fics forum is run well, but you've got to be absolutely out of your mind to point at the free fics forum as an example of a well-run forum.

As this has been moved to Trash Talk (Flames&Rages), I refuse to further participate in this thread. I will also not be checking this board anymore. If Knighttour happens to bring up some rational arguments, please email me at ahoi@cco.cjb.net

P.S. Guest, I guess you also believe astronauts went into space and walked on the moon. Wake up guest, you're in the matrix.

in fact, guest posts ARE allowed on ficsforum.net as I said earlier. you can verify this yourself by seeing the new (and ignorant) post made there today by a guest.

My apologies if this question is either inappropriate or has been answered already by members of this site: What happened to 'www.FreeChess.org?' I've been trying to log on for about 2-3 weeks & have been unable to do so. Is the site no longer available? Thanks in advance.}

Freechess is broken currently, although Fics itself is still up and running. The latest news is that Fics will be taken down for repairs to the dead computer equipment tonight (the 20th) and restored as soon as possible.
