The main problem with such approach, is what do we do when dupewillie comes and spams the entire messageboard and turns away all posters. |

Well a lot of people do. So if we could restrict him to Trash Talk, that's fine, but if we let him post over the entire forum, we lose all members and are effectively stuck with him.

It takes an admin to restrict dupewillie to trashtalk! An alternative would be a forum with just a trashtalk section so everything is fine and on topic. |

I think dupewillie is ok he is supporting Peltier. Some people say dupewillie and russianbear are the same person. |

Another alternative is to give all users administrative privileges automatically upon registration! I have looked into InvisionFree, it appears to support this. There are still a few problems of technical nature, and I'll ponder on this tommorow. Btw, do you think it would be ok to keep the name "Free FICS Forum"?

If anybody is an admin anyone can destroy the place. |

Not really, as everyone can have administrative privileges to a certain extent, like not being able to delete the board. This poses plenty of problems of technical nature though, which none of the existing forum software that I know of is able to solve. I am reluctant to make a forum with just a Trash Talk section, as it effectively becomes a trash forum, and not a FICS forum. This leaves us with the minimalist administration approach: one simply moves unacceptable posts to Trash Talk, or deletes them altogether if they violate the guidelines, which is fairly close to what the Free FICS Forum was. As I don't even have time for this now, I would gladly set up a FICS forum for whoever is willing to maintain it.

Are you guys boycotting www.ficsforum.net or are you not aware of it or what? It seems stupid to create several different websites for discussions about FICS. That just means everybody have to check several sites, or half the fics population discuss things in one place and the other half in another place. |

Nobody uses ficsforum.net. It doesn't have freedom of speech, it doesn't allow guest postings, it is rarely used, just for stupid logo games. It is a joke not a serious forum. |

Does anybody really post there except Gorgonian and AcademiaNut? It is stupid of FICS admins not to check the Free FICS Forum instead of that silly worthless and unused place. ficsforum.net has a long history of censorship-loving policies, and there's just too much bad history attached to it for anyone to use it.

This thread is on Bugboard, GBate. If Advanced Pawn and I and the rest of the world are in error, please enlighten us GBate.

Nobody has to check ficsforum.net unless they are interested in puzzle games. It's as simple as that. |

how bizzare. i thought guest posts were reinstated, freedom of speech is a ridiculous thing to offer a message board (see "free fics forum" for an example of why), and the fact that its rarely used is not a reason why people are not using it. that is called a circular argument. |

People are not using it because it sucks, it that simple. |

What was wrong with the Free FICS Forum? No, guest postings aren't reinstated on ficsforum.net. And point me to one person, other than you and AcademiaNut, who still posts there. |

Interesting logic. The only reason the FICS Forum isn't open to guests is CheatersRep kept spamming it with how to computer cheat. And now CheatersRep is claiming the FICS Forum is dead because it isn't open to guests. I could DOS the "Free FICS Forum" then claim is is a bad message board because it is DOSed. Same difference. |
